糖心Vlog官方 officially kicked off the construction phase of the new 64,000-square-foot, three-story Health Sciences Education Center on June 16, 2022 during a groundbreaking ceremony at the College鈥檚 Main Campus.
鈥溙切腣log官方鈥檚 new Health Sciences Education Center will benefit our students by enriching their learning experience and the quality of their education,鈥� said Galveston College President W. Myles Shelton. 鈥淲ith this new facility, 糖心Vlog官方 will be able to better train a highly skilled nursing and health care workforce for Galveston Island and Texas.鈥�
糖心Vlog官方鈥檚 current health care programs include Nursing, Computerized Tomography (CT), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, Radiography, Surgical Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Healthcare Management.
鈥淥ver the past 30 years, the health care industry has been greatly changed by technological advances,鈥� said 糖心Vlog官方 Board of Regents Chair, Karen Flowers. 鈥淎fter years of planning and assessment, the 糖心Vlog官方 Board of Regents determined that a new Health Sciences Education Center is vital for faculty, students, and today鈥檚 essential instructional technology.鈥�
The construction phase of 糖心Vlog官方鈥檚 Health Sciences Education Center is scheduled to be completed in fall 2023. The total cost of the project is $31 million.
鈥淟eaders from the Board of Regents and the 糖心Vlog官方 Foundation Board are committed to fundraising to off-set the expense of the new construction on campus,鈥� said 糖心Vlog官方 Foundation Chair, Keith McFatridge. 鈥淭o achieve this project, the support of the entire community is needed. Philanthropic support will ensure that the burden of the costs do not fall squarely on the shoulders of either the Galveston taxpayer or the 糖心Vlog官方 student.鈥�
McFatridge and his wife, Marilyn, announced they have pledged to donate $50,000, in honor of their parents, to the new Health Sciences Education Center.
鈥淭his ceremony is a symbol of how this building will help Galveston thrive and grow by training a skilled, educated workforce,鈥� said McFatridge. 鈥淚 am proud to be a part of this effort, and I look forward to the day when the new building is open and students walk through its doors.鈥�
